And of course any other ideas would be appreciated. If you have a resource for Mix Control that might be more detailed, I'd be very interested to check it out. Unfortunately, most of the tutorials on line aren't specific enough for my current problem. I just wish I had learned Mix Control as deeply as I should have learned it I only learned enough to get myself up and running with basics, but never went past that. Guess I should try another channel as you've suggested, though since analog works with my current set up, I doubt that channel would be the issue. I've checked ADAT inputs and outputs 1-4. I'll keep looking through Mix Control, thought honestly I'm not sure what I'm looking for. MixControl is the place to look for signal.Ĭheck MixControl-preferences and latency. If you are familiar with Mix Control at all, at least for this issue, is there any routing idea I might try to use to resolve this? Beyond that, I just don't know Mix Control enough to be able to logically try ideas that might solve this. I can definitely tell for certain that ADAT out is leaving the UA I can also tell for certain that the units are connected correctly via the optical connection as the Mix Control software reads "Locked" on the display. I'm thinking that this must somehow be related to my not knowing Mix Control nearly as well as I know Reaper (but probably should learn). To answer your questions, 1) yes, I can get an analog signal from mic to UA to Pro 40 to Reaper - I connected a Line Out analog from the UA to one of the line-ins on the Pro 40 sure enough, got signal within Reaper. What happens if you try an analogue input from a mic through the gear and select an analogue input in Reaper? I guess I could do that, but it defeats the purpose of being able to use that many more channels simultaneously, and puts another pre-amp between the UA and my PC.Īny other thoughts? I'm wondering if: a) I should try to get someone live on the phone at Focusrite to walk me through Mix Control a bit to see if using that would solve the issue, or b) if I just haven't hooked something up correctly somewhere along the line.Īre you sure that audio is being routed in the Saffire / Mix Control to its Optical Output? I am ableto get an analog signal from the UA to the Pro 40 within Reaper, if I connect the analog line-out from the UA to a line level input on the Pro 40. I still see the Digital Output meter on the 4-710d lighting up when I speak into the microphone. Second, based on the configuration I gave to you, selecting an ADAT 1-4 input for a track in Reaper still does not give me any signal at that end. I have a message in to Focusrite about Mix Control which hopefully will help me here. Thanks for responding to answer your questions, I'm not certain about the Mix Control monitoring as I am not very adept at using the software. Tracks in Reaper should be set to ADAT in 1-4 for the 4-710D inputs. Thanks in advance for any replies.Ĭan you monitor the external preamps through Mix Control? I hope I've provided enough information to have someone offer some direction and help. I've made certain that the Audio settings in Reaper's preference menus include all the analog and optical inputs and outputs for my Pro 40. The options Reaper gives me for track signal input are: analog 1 through 8, SPDIF L or R, ADAT 1 through 8, or ReaRoute 1 through 16. With this, I'm not clear how to set the input in Reaper for the recording enabled channel, since the signal is coming in via optical. I know I've connected the optical correctly (when I open Mix Control software from Focusrite, it shows "Locked" to indicate the two devices are connected and synced). The signal meter on the UA's input does not show incoming signal. I know there is output signal as the Digital Output LED indicator on the UA lights up when I test the mic. 1) -> UA ADAT Optical Out -> Saffire Pro 40 Optical Input -> PC (via firewire) Signal flow: Mic -> XLR Patch through -> UA Mic Input (ch. Here's what I have done:Ĭomputer interface - Focusrite Saffire Pro 40Īdditional connected hardware - Universal Audio 4-710d (4 channel pre) I'm not sure I've set things up properly, and would appreciate some guidance. I recently made some equipment upgrades to my studio, which has led me to use ADAT optical out and in for the first time. Apologies up front as this is a rather detailed question.
